Environmental Protection Geologist I

Description: 

Under immediate supervision of the Groundwater Unit Manager, Permit Section, in the Bureau of Land (BOL), receives training, observes and assists higher level geologists in evaluating geologic and hydrogeologic principles; identifying, evaluating, and developing groundwater monitoring systems; the development of technical reports; and interpreting and applying applicable State and Federal laws, rules/regulations, policies/procedures including 35 Illinois Administrative Code (IAC), Subtitle F, Part 620 and 35 IAC, Subtitle G rules, and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (ILEPA) procedures for solid waste facilities.   Attends, observes and participates in meetings, trainings and site visits; gains and expands professional knowledge in geology, hydrogeology, groundwater monitoring, and applicable State/Federal/Agency laws rules/regulations, and policies/procedures.  Travels in performance of duties.  
 

Education and Experience: Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college with a degree in geology , including at least one course in groundwater geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, soil physics, and/or soil chemistry. Prefers coursework (12 - 16 semester credit hours) in groundwater geology, hydrogeology, soil physics, and/or soil chemistry.  Requires no previous experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires elementary knowledge of natural geological processes (methods), procedures, and techniques. Requires ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports. Requires ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to profit from training received in geologic investigations.

Specific Job Requirements Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.  Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software.
 

Anticipated Starting Salary - $47,760/year
Current Bargaining unit employees - CBA language applies
Full bargaining unit range - $47,760 - $69,648
