Report on Peer Mentor
As a peer who has lived experience as a consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services and/or has had experience in the criminal justice system or the armed forces, you will provide counseling and supportive services to participants in San Francisco Superior Courtâs Behavioral Health, Misdemeanor Behavioral Health, Drug Treatment, Community Justice Center and Veterans Justice Court programs. You will work individually and in group settings with criminal justice involved clients who may be suffering from mental health, substance use and personality disorders and/or have served in the armed forces.Â
â¢ Provides regular support to mentees.
â¢ Reports to and collaborates with the Mentoring and Peer Support (MAPS) programâs lead peer mentor and Program Coordinator.
â¢ Submits appropriate paperwork and documentation related to program services and participant contacts.
â¢ Assists with resource linkage (e.g., making appointments).
â¢ Assists mentees with navigating community resources (e.g., transportation, mobility, housing, decision-making, assistive technology, language, government programs, cultural adjustment, immigration services, food assistance, legal assistance, womenâs services, medical assistance, mental health services, vocational services, volunteerism, and education programs, and any other services that may support the client on overcoming external barriers to well-being and self-sufficiency.
â¢ Conducts outreach to residential, community and hospital settings to connect with mentees.
â¢ Accompanies mentees, as needed.
â¢ Provides one on one peer mentoring.
â¢ Acts as a liaison with community treatment providers, San Francisco Superior Court Collaborative Courts Program staff, probation, parole and other agencies as needed.
â¢ Organizes and facilitates support groups, as requested (may be at a variety of locations).
â¢ Charts on mentees.
â¢ Attends court, as needed.
â¢ Follows all policies and procedures of the program.
â¢ Wears appropriate attire on all workdays.
â¢ Demonstrates commitment to the continued development of multi-cultural understanding through trainings, workshops, reading, etc.
â¢ Participates in regular evaluations to assess progress in job skills and competitive employment for purposes of grant reporting.
â¢ Participates in regular satisfaction surveys for purposes of grant reporting.
â¢ Commits to being available for discussion and/or focus group with research staff for purposes of grant reporting.
