SUPERVISING DENTAL ASSISTANT

Description: 


Reviews work of Dental Assistants, giving instruction or assistance as necessary to maintain an optimum level of service.

Consults with staff dentists regarding preferred operating techniques and the adequacy of assistance provided by subordinates.

Evaluates work performance and counsels employees in work-related problems, interviews for hire, and recommends resolution of employee relations problems.

Controls supply levels and ensures that amounts are sufficient for anticipated workload; orders supplies as necessary for dental specialties.

Evaluates the condition and efficiency of existing equipment; prepares bid specifications and reviews of new equipment on the market for submission to the director; ensures that existing equipment is maintained in good working order.

Provides in-service training to subordinates by lecture and by demonstration of proper chairside techniques and office procedures.

Generates memorandums, correspondence, schedules, and reports by utilizing computer software and/or computer database system to aid in the administrative and clerical procedures.

Prepares workload together with indicated personnel projections, equipment and space requirements; prepares and justifies budget for submission to the director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Two years' experience assisting a dentist by serving as a chair assistant and office clerk at the level of Los Angeles County class of Dental Assistant*

PHYSICAL CLASS: – Light II: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

LICENSE:
A Radiation Safety License issued by the Dental Board of California -OR- A certificate of compliance from an approved Board course in radiation safety.

Special Requirement Information:
*Experience at the Level of Dental Assistant in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: Assists a dentist by serving as chair assistant and office clerk.

Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess desirable qualifications in excess of the 
Minimum Requirements:
Experience as an administrator* or office manager in a dental office. 

*Administrator experience is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of an office including organizing, planning and implementing office policies and procedures; managing budget and supplies; supervision and evaluations of employees.

Examination Content:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience; and desirable qualifications based on application information, weighted 100%.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

Eligibility Information: 
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.

No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

Special Information: 
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
