Job Summary

The State Bar of California seeks help to serve as proctors for the California Bar Examination. Proctors plays a key role in the success of the administration of the examination. Proctors are responsible to ensure the exam administration follows the established policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with set-up of test materials prior to the beginning of the examination sessions; Verify applicant admittance documentation before directing applicants to assigned seating; Enforce examination rules and policies, such as those regarding items allowed into a test center; Allow only authorized personnel within the secured test center; Maintain the security of examination materials at all times; Distribute, collect and account for examination materials over the course of at least 3 consecutive days; Complete various examination forms; Monitor applicants during examination to ensure applicants are not accessing unauthorized assistance, i.e., cheating.

Qualifications and Requirements

Must attend all examination events on time and remain at the test center until dismissed by staff; Must be a high school graduate (prefer college graduate/coursework) and at least 18 years old; Ability to work for 10 – 12 hours per day for at least 3 consecutive days; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; Must be able to accept instructions/corrections from staff and supervising proctors; Knowledge of basic rules of vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic; Ability to communicate effectively and courteously; Possess strong organizational skills and use good judgment; Ability to be flexible when assignment changes; Ability to move quickly and quietly around assigned section and test center with ease; Ability to carry boxes of materials that may weigh up to 40 lbs; Ability to stay awake and alert during long periods of silence; Must be in good health and able to stand/walk up to 75% of the time; and Must not be a law clerk, a law student, a paralegal or admitted as an attorney in any jurisdiction.
